Case 425
assignedReport English
Medial Compartment:
Extensive contusion edema in the medial femoral condyle (Series 5/Image 19) without evidence of fracture. Intact cartilage. Intact medial meniscus. Intact MCL.
Lateral Compartment:
Slight hyperintense signal alterations in the fibular head (Series 5/Image 27). Otherwise normal bone marrow signal. Intact cartilage. Intact lateral meniscus. Intact LCL.
Femoropatellar Joint and Patella:
Normal bone marrow signal. Intact cartilage. Normal appearance of the patellar ligament. Normal Hoffa's fat pad.
Cruciate Ligaments:
Intact cruciate ligaments.
Musculature and Other Soft Tissues:
Accentuated joint fluid. A well-defined collection measuring 17 x 16 x 10 mm, T1-hypointense, T2-hyperintense in the subcutaneous fat tissue of the medial femoral condyle (Series 5/Image 17). Diffuse fluid tracks in the subcutaneous fat tissue medially at the level of the femoral condyle. Normal flow void in the included vessels. Given the aforementioned history, there is likely a strong bone contusion zone due to a direct impact trauma in the context of the traffic accident, without any detectable bony contour disturbance on MRI at the medial femoral condyle, with significant bone marrow edema measuring 8 x 4 cm. In the adjacent subcutaneous fat tissue, there is a well-defined fluid collection measuring approximately 17 x 16 x 10 mm, differential diagnosis includes hematoma. Slight fluid signal at the fibular tip, differential diagnosis includes another smaller bone contusion zone.
No indication of accompanying damage to the internal knee structures. In particular, cruciate and collateral ligaments are intact. No joint effusion. No high-grade chondropathy.
